I know that I want to live in Southwest next year at UMass, but I don't neccessarily know which building/house/tower..?? Do we get to choose that? Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

As a freshman, you pick between First Year Themes (NOT the same as a RAP… just a general theme that the floor is supposed to have activities related to) that might be in multiple buildings, and sometimes even multiple residential areas. And even if you put a certain theme as your #1 choice, it’s not guaranteed that you’ll get it.

The only way you can pick your specific dorm for sure is if you sign up for a RAP. If you find a RAP in a building you like, I’d say definitely go for it! But don’t sign up for a RAP that you have no interest in just because it’s in the building you want.

Oh, and just for future reference, upperclassmen (anyone besides freshmen) get to pick the specific room in the specific building that they want. So even if you don’t get your top choice this year, it’ll probably be easier to next year.
