Space bags (aka vaccuum bags)

Have any of you used these for moving all your clothes to the dorms and storing them, etc? What are your thoughts on it? Helpful or hassle?

i've used them for travel. They do a great job of compacting things, but clothes come out very wrinkled.

good question star. ive been wanting to know that for a while. didnt kno the clothes come out wrinkled tho. damn.

They work, but you wont really always have a vacuum with a hose =/.

I bought some of these off one of the television shopping networks for my D when she went off to college. The kind I bought don't require the use of a vacuum, you simply pack the clothes in and basically roll the air out. It worked extremely well. She unpacked her clothes and I brought the bags back home with me so she could conserve her space. I'll take them back when I go to move her for the summer.

My mom bought the same type of bags as gymeni. She found them at some random travel/luggage store.

I've used them for S&D tournaments for four years now and they work great! It does save a lot of space. The only problem is that the zippers on the bags stop functioning as well after a while. But I have been using them for years, so it's expected.

When we moved our kids off to college I found these bags worked great for linens/pillows etc. Even when moving from CA to MD and packing everything into suitcases they took the down comforter, towels, linens, etc. and allowed them to fit. They don't last long though as I've tried them for storage at home. Eventually the seal breaks and air gets back in.

LL Bean, Travelsmith, etc. sell bags with a valve in them. You put everything in, zip it shut, then roll them to squeeze out the air.

On trips I use them for socks, underwear, sweater, etc. Stuff where wrinkles don't matter.
