Space saving tip for move-in

This is a tip for those of you driving to Columbia.

You DD or DS is not going to need all the luggage you might be bringing with you to move them in since they'll bring one bag home at Thanksgiving (often full of dirty clothes) and maybe two at Christmas.

Last year when our S was driving back to Chapel Hill, we used a few Space Bags but mostly the new XL and XXL Zip Lock bags to pack the majority of things he took with him. After you fill them, partially zip the bag then kneel on them to remove the excess air, they pack virtually flat that way.

He layered the bags on his back seat and in the trunk and was able to get everything he needed back to school, including bedding, in far less space than suitcases or boxes would have required. They were also far easier to carry in to his house and, when moved in, he didn't have to worry about disposing boxes or storing too much luggage.

He packed underwear, socks, polos, t shirts, sweaters and bedding this way. Dress shirts, suits etc were still hung in either dry cleaner plastic bags or suit bags and were placed on top of the zip locks.

Hope this helps.

GREAT idea, eadad. Thanks so much; we will try this.

looking forward to packing in plastic this year as S is going by car instead of flying. We're flying home so we'll still have to fit our bag in the car!
