spacing on essays

If you double space, you should never add an extra space. Even if you use a space beteween paragraphs, you should indent.

I hate that I know this, but my mom's a technical editor (meaning she edits down to the detail of how many spaces after a period, and can actually tell just by looking) and she's informed me that 2 spaces after the period is the traditional way, but current grammer calls for only one space after the period. If your going to do one way stick to it. Don't jump around. Just like how now phone number should be wrtted 123.456.7890 instead of (123) 456-7890 and e-mail is now email.

haha, I so wish I didn't know that, but believe me my mom knows so yeah...

You're not supposed to put a space between paragraphs, just indent.

In general, every line should be double spaced, including between paragraphs, and between the title and the first line of your paper if you don't have a cover page. What ever you do, do not quadruple space between paragraphs (as a tutor I see this all the time). Your paper should look nice and uniform all the way down. Be sure to include your last name and page number in the header. If you use a cover page, start numbering your pages on page 1. If you don't, start numbering on page 2. There should be two spaces after a period. Now, a lot of professors have their own way of doing things, so be sure to pay attention to the directions. Most will tell you how to style your paper... MLA, APA, Chicago, etc. This will affect your citations more than anything else, but all the books will tell you how to format your paper. BUY THE STYLE GUIDES. You'll soon figure out the most common one for your major (I used MLA a lot in my GEs, Chicago for my upper division). Don't guess at how to style your paper. It's the stupidest way to lose points.

ugh I hate Word with it's retarded auto correct.

It's funny to get someone's computer who doesn't know anything about them, and change their auto correct, so like everytime they write "the" it changes to "teh" or something, and watch them go crazy.
