Spanish 1 or Anatomy & Physiology

For my senior year, I’m taking AP Physics, AP Lit, AP Gov, and AP Calc AB.
I was going to take AP French, but it is no longer being offered at my school.
In college, I plan on either going for a science major, or possible pre-med.

Should I take spanish 1 or anatomy and physiology? (keep in mind at my school anatomy and physiology has almost the same work load as an AP course, so I’m also wondering if this would be overwhelming for me)

ps. this year I did very well taking 2 AP, 1 honor class, and french 4.

So, you’ve taken French through French 3 or French 4? If so, I would go with Anatomy and Physiology.

@Ynotgo Through french 4.
Okay, thanks for the input!

You can ask your GC to mention in the GC letter that AP French was discontinued.

Why take one year of mediocre spanish when you already show competency in french? Unless you have a compelling reason to learn spanish in senior year, I’d say the anatomy class will look more rigorous on your app and contribute more.

Definitely A&P…you have taken all the Foreign language you need.

You’re good with foreign languages, especially if your GC can mention in his/her letter than AP French was discontinued.
However, is there no other class you could take, beside another science class (you’re taking Physics) or SPanish 1?
Neither sounds “right” - an extra quasi-AP that will be considered as a lower-level science class, or a beginning level language where you’ll reach zero proficiency… don’t you have other choices? Robotics, ditigal media, current events, culinary arts…?

You do know there is no such thing as a “pre-med” major, don’t you? Whether you intend to apply to med school or not, you’ll still have to pick a college major.

I took A&P this past year, and it’s quite a bit of memorizing. However, the processes in each body system are very few in number (basically 1 or 2 big concepts per system), so it’s not really a hard class to study for. However, like you said, it’s a lot of work. Spanish is a very easy language to learn, but since you’ve only taken French (which is probably one of the easiest languages grammatically), Spanish may be relatively difficult with you. Basically, just imagine French and all the oral presentations and practice, but add in twice the grammatical concepts to memorize. In your case, I believe both classes will be equally difficult to study for, but I’ll recommend taking A&P. You can take Spanish in college, and there isn’t really much benefit to taking two languages in high school since you’ll probably end up just taking one of them in college.

@mikemac Yes, I know that. I meant to type “and” not “or”. I was rushing when I posted this.

I was considering taking “Mammal Bio” and “Bird Bio”, but those are just semester “college prep” classes. At my school, A&P is listed as an honors course (which is higher than college prep). There aren’t any higher level courses I could take because AP Sciences take up 2 periods, and I don’t have room for that on my schedule.

@MYOS1634

Do you have any honors class you can take?
(You already have a science class, so you wouldn’t need to take one. A&P is better than the CP substitutes you mentioned, but isn’t there another class you could take)?

OP is already planning to take AP math, social studies, and English. What’s the issue with a likely STEM major having two science courses on top of rigor in all core subjects?

FWIW, my senior year schedule was similar to yours (APUSH, A&P, AP Calc BC, AP Physics, and some minor required courses), no English (already had 4 credits) and I was fine admissions-wise.

^OP said it was as rigorous as an AP, and taking too many AP/IB/AICE/DE classes senior year is generally a bad idea. 4 APs is a good amount, adding an extra one (A&P) is likely to be too much.
