Spanish 1110. Difficult or fairly easy?

So I'm thinking about taking spanish to fulfill my foreign language requirement. I have no background in it but I'm interested since it will grow in importance as the makeup of our country shifts. I'm thinking about taking this class 1st semester and am wondering if its something that requires lots of work and is difficult (i.e. mandarin) or is it something most people dont struggle with too much? Basically, how effing hard is it?

Spanish 1210, my mistake

I took Spanish in high school and I will personally tell you that it is not difficult to learn with some effort. The conjugations are fairly easy to remember; and the hardest parts probably involve certain grammatical irregularities. Quicker reading and good conversation comprehension might be another story, though…

If you have to complete your foreign language requirement, and Spanish is the particular language that interests you (or at least, appeals to you for the logical reason you mentioned in the OP) and 1210 is a compulsory part of the introductory sequence, does it really matter if it’s difficult or fairly easy?

P.S. Are you who I think you are? Have we debated exceptionalism/consumerism recently on Facebook?

yea srrinath you know who I am. i was just wondering whether if its fairly difficult i should hold off taking it until a later time (to ease into things as a premed)

That’s a slightly better justification, but I think you can safely assume that your pre-med coursework will get progressively more demanding. Also, if you miss out on taking 1210 during freshman fall, you’ll probably have to wait till the fall term of sophomore year in order to take it. I don’t know about you but personally, I wouldn’t want to have the entire 11 credits of my language requirement looming before me at the point when I will begin to consolidate my areas of interest.

yeah, that was the conclusion i was coming to, for better or for worse

If I don’t get exempted from the foreign language requirement via the Hindi placement test, I might possibly join you in Spanish, assuming the credit limits and the scheduling don’t cause problems.
