I’m looking for a backup plan for if I don’t get a summer job I signed up for, so I looked into summer programs in my county and found out that because I’m FARMs there would be a discount on original credit courses in the summer. There isn’t really any core classes I would like to take over the summer so I was thinking of taking Spanish 2 because I enjoy the language so far and it would be nice to reach AP Spanish 5. Do you think I should do it? The cost would be a little over 300 with the original at around 450.
I think you should do it, but make sure that if it counts in your GPA that you do well. Also something to keep in mind: Spanish 2 introduces past tense and some future tense (at least in my school) and is therefore considered “hard”. I’m currently in Spanish 2 and am going to skip Spanish 3 so I can take AP Spanish 4 in 10th grade. Whatever you decide to do good luck!
Yeah, that’s why I was skeptical and wanted to ask here before deciding on whether to take it. I think maybe I could self-study a little before taking it so I have a better understanding? Also, we don’t have AP Spanish at level 4 in my school (AP Spanish 5 is Lang/Culture) so maybe they introduce grammar at Spanish 3? Also, district requires all students to take 2 years of language so I think they do most of the hard stuff in Spanish 3 for that reason. I don’t know I’ll check the course catalog for the course descriptions right now.
Okay, so I just found out there’s might be another way to reach Level 5. I was thinking if I take Spanish 4 DE over the summer before senior year and then request a course change. This would be completely free including textbooks fees etc because I’m FARMs so maybe it would be less difficult to convince my parents to do that. Also I read up that Spanish 4 is just a review of 1-3 with more grammar discussed so it may be easier to take that over the summer than with Spanish 2
Try Compass Charter School and ask your school if the credits there will transfer over. It’s tuiton free and an online program.
