Hey all, looking for some quick advice. I got my spanish placement results today, and it said I could take either Spanish 212 or 300 (I got a score of 741 if that means anything). Any advice on which to take? I am not planning on majoring or minoring in spanish, although I am pursuing polisci./int'l studies if that makes a difference (more specifically, the polisci/math joint major with a concentration in int'l relations).

This is what I'm planning for my schedule-
Spanish 212 or 300
Multivariable calc (I know this will be hard to get into...if I don't get it I'll try to overload or get diff. equations)
POLS 110
Freshman Seminar

I mean, I think I'm fairly good at spanish. I took the AP Spanish lang test but haven't gotten my results back yet (long story haha). On the other hand, I'm not majoring or minoring in it. Basically, I'm looking for a course where I will learn, but I don't want to focus a lot of my time on the class. Thoughts? thanks!

Its nearly August and no results?? lol but it just depend on your interests. You are going to have to take 300 eventually but if you want to sharpen your language skills first 212 is Advanced spanish and 300 is more spanish literature. If you confident in your spanish skills, I would start in 300. Seems a little more interesting than just another language class.

Also, if you do international studies major. You are going to have to take at least 4 foreign language classes. Just something to keep in mind in the future

I know, it’s pretty bad! Basically, my recording device failed on the last section, so I was told to go get lunch in the meantime as the dining hall was about to close. Then, when I came back, they said that because I left the room, I wasn’t allowed to simply repeat my 2 minute oral presentation but had to come back during the make-up AP test slot to re-do the whole second half of the exam. So I’m still waiting on my scores haha

Anyway, thanks for the advice. I’m not planning on majoring in IS btw, just concentrating on it within the polisci/math joint degree if that makes a difference. Is there a large difference in the degree of difficulty between 212 and 300? Any specific teachers to try and get or avoid? thanks!
