I am SOPHMORE in high school and i am currently taking spanish 3. im like spanish but i was planning out my schedule for next year and i was thinking that it would be better to take an AP like AP BIO instead of spanish 4. my Problem is that most colleges like to see 3 years of a language and i was wondering if what i have counts because i took spanish 1 in middle school for hs credit or do i have to take 3 years while actually in highschool

You have to take 3 years in high school. Any middle school classes will not count for the high school transcript so you will still need to continue taking Spanish next year to get a minimum of 3 years of the language.

i did get high school credit for spanish 1 in middle school and it is on my transcript

Hmm…that’s an interesting case. Then I guess if it’s on your high school transcript you’ll be fine. However, several of the top colleges do recommend having 4 years of a single foreign language, so you could keep that in mind as well when planning out your schedule.

Thanks for the advice. and it is actually common where i live to have the option of taking a language in 8th grade and also if you are recomended, algebra 1 in 8th grade and for the really smart kids, algebra 1 in 7th grade. All of these classes are on the transcrpt in taken

We do that in our area as well with algebra 1 and foreign languages, but they don’t show up as classes on our high school transcript if taken in middle school, unfortunately.
