I knew that you had to take current language placement tests before orientation, but I wasn’t sure when to get on the whole deal. Anyways, I googled and figured it all out. I took Spanish and placed in 5th semester (if my AP test doesn’t score me a 3+). Anyways, if you need to take the tests in one of these languages, and weren’t sure where:

I’ve taken Spanish for a few years now, and continued into AP Spanish 5, so I might not be the person to judge. I didn’t think it was too tough though. Good luck!

is it timed? how long did it take you? idk how much time i should allow myself to take the test. I need to do the spanish one too

It isn’t timed, but they tell you how long you took after. I don’t think that has any effect though? It took me about 20-25 minutes for the Spanish one.

If I want to take Italian (from an entry level) do I have to wait until January to take the placement test or can I just sign up for the intro-level Italian class?

toms1266, the dates given for the Italian placement test in that link are for the previous semester (Spring '09). When you go to your orientation there will be an Italian placement test administered then, and you can find out the details from your student advisor once you’re there. (If by some chance you’re a continuing student, there should also be a placement test being administered at the beginning of classes in September as well.)

However, if you have little to no prior experience with Italian, you don’t need to take the placement test–just go ahead and register.

If you don’t score high enough on the AP test you can take the SAT Subject Test instead. I thought the Subject Test was easier than the AP exam.
