Spanish placement exam

Has anyone taken the Spanish placement exam at UCLA?

How does that work? Is it a written test, a multiple choice test? Someone I spoke to said it was taken on a computer and it was multiple choice.

Any info would be appreciated.

it's taken on a computer and it is multiple choice. you take the questions one at a time and at the end of the exam, you get a numerical score. To satisfy the foreign language requirement, i believe you need a score of ~400 which places you into spanish 4.

I heard that they're not doing it this year... Or that it might be self-placement. Not sure.. I think they'll give us more info in the fall :</p>

Self-placement? So it means it will be up to us to know what level we sign up for? Hmm.

I hope they do the test. I'm going to take it and hopefully test into Spanish 4 so I can finish up that annoying language requirement.

Does anyone know for sure whether or not there is a Spanish placement test this year? When I signed up for orientation, spanish wasn't on the list of placement tests to choose from...

There is no Spanish placement test at orientation. The orientation website says it is offered at the beginning of the year by the Spanish dept., but in Jeyday_Lovely's AMAZING thread about orientation 101 Jeyday posted:

"FOR SPANISH PLACEMENT TEST: i needed a spanish placement test, but my counselor told me that if we want to do spanish as a language and didnt test out of it with AP credit, then they will take care of it during the fall. she said they aren't going to do a placement test for spanish if someone wants to TEST OUT OF IT TO BE EXEMPT FROM THE LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT, but they said said instead they're gunna ask us how many years we took spanish, any gap years, and based on the knowledge you know/still remember where you should be placed. its a self-assessment thing, but that can STILL CHANGE..."

Looks like they're doing something unusual this year....

Just searched and found this:
