I neglected to take the foreign language placement test when I first came to school, and now I'm getting on in years and need to complete my language requirement. For those who have taken the on-campus Spanish placement test, I was wondering if you could give me an idea of what to expect. What is the format? Multiple choice? Listening? Writing? If you tested out, what score did you get on the AP test or SAT Subject test? I'm trying to figure out how best to prepare, because I need to "test out" when I take the test in December. Thanks!!

I have heard that it is possible to test out of the first 2 semesters if you took 3 years honors or 4 years Spanish in HS and got A’s. If you took Honors 4, Spanish 5, or AP Spanish, you may be able to test out of the 3rd semester, but it is rare. If you didn’t get a high enough AP score to begin with, it is very hard to place out of all 3 req’d semesters. I believe the exam includes writing and listening/speaking. Others may have more details.

I delayed taking the test until spring, and I’m wondering if anyone has any additional insight, especially in regards to the format. I am nervous!
