So I’m going into my second semester of college with a 3.75 GPA and I really want to keep it. To graduate I need 2 semesters of a foreign language but I’m having troubling deciding between French and Spanish. I took a semester of Spanish in highschool and barely passed (D) but it was an online class. Now that I’ll be attending a face-to-face would it be easier to learn?
This may be biased but I took Spanish since 6th grade up til senior year of HS. And now in college, I just finished my first semester of French. In my opinion, I found Spanish to be a lot easier in terms of pronunciation and verb conjugations (they were more regular imo). But again, this might be because I’ve been exposed to it since I was 11 and probably learning a language at that young of an age may have contributed to the “easiness”.
However, I did find many similarities between the two languages in terms of syntax and grammar.
I also didn’t work that hard/put in that much effort when I took my languages classes.
In the end, it depends which language you want to earn more (having an interest in the language may push you to engage in it more and be more focused in trying, etc.)
Thank you! I started Duolingo to just see which one I’ll be able to learn better and so far I can pronounce things in Spanish way better than French which is a huge part of the grade. Plus Spanish would be more practical in the long run! Thank you so much and although i wanted to take French I realized that I need take something easier [Spanish isnt easy or anything i know but for me it’s easier to speak it than French]
I also think it helps if you like the language and are interested in learning it. It sounds like you’re going with Spanish.
