hate to say it, but they absolutely dominated our O-Line and the senior running backs never showed up for the game--last thing you would expect. heck I could have run for 28 yards the whole game--my mother could have run for 28 yards the whole game. Sure the receivers dropped four or five passes right to them, there was a horrible fourth down call in our end (should have done a direct snap or quarerback sneak),but it was the O-line and running backs that choked. Tate played great, but he can't do it alone. the guy has "true grit". The defense played well also. Come on Blue, rebound--you CAN beat Iowa. It was a "must-win" game for the Spartans, and they played like it-we did not.

D’antoino targeted our running game and out coached RR.

I had just realized that the overtime was sudden death, when, oh no - death.

Is it always sudden death? I thought that in football they just played a whole extra period thing and then whoever had the most at the end of that won. Boy was I surprised.

Same here. Then I noticed that there was no time clock showing on tv, and figured it out. I think the format is each side gets a chance to score so it isn’t really sudden death, but once Michigan failed to score, all State had to do was get some points and it was over. Maybe someone can explain it for us.

Its not really sudden death, only if you dont score first.

If mich would have scored to start OT, then MSU would have a chance to match it. But since Mich didn’t score, when MSU did it was over. If both teams score the same, it moves on to another round…Thats why you want to go on defense to start OT, so you know what you need to get to win or tie

The worst part of the game was the fake punt.

Did anyone think we should have gone for two at the end of regulation? I didn’t think overtime was going to go well.

^^No. Playing for overtime was the correct call. I am very proud of this team. They played a poor game but never gave up. They will only improve.

UM played extremely poorly but almost won. I think we’d win 7 times if we played them 10 times. The last 2 drives were when we decided that “oh, hey, MSU’s secondary sucks-let’s pass more.” The punt fake lost us teh game. But we’re still 4-1. We won’t really be “back” until next year.

Yeah, we will be dangerous next year…

Kinda sad that the seniors wont be able to experience our return to national prominence

Another thing to add, this team is bigger than this game…We are rebuilding, state was supposed to compete for a big 10 title

Look at many of our key players, a lot are freshman…Forcier pass to roundtree with 2 seconds left, both are freshman…Stonum and hemingway are both sophmores…We also have a ton of good RB’s behind minor and brown

Half of our starters are freshman and sophomores. That’s not good. Most good teams start around 4 or 5, not 11. We have no depth right now except at WR, RB, and maybe OL.

Yeah they should of. They had a much better chance of winning if they went for the two rather than going into OT, IMO.

I’m glad someone made a sensible thread about this :). I am so sick of looking at my fb newsfeed with people going “Oh well, MSU people are still stupid anyways.” Or my personal favorite “go green, go white, can’t read, can’t write.” It’s like give me a break! It’s a game, don’t be bitter!

U of M didn’t even seem like they were awake until 10 minutes left. I fully expected U of M to win so it was a shock to me when MSU was up. Good luck next year :)!

At the end of the day, football aside, I go to Michigan and you do not.

smoke green snort white, can’t read can’t write.

If you can’t get into college go to state (clap clap)

Typical Spartan fan. Probably can’t name more than 3 players and their team wins and they’re like “Oh my god, we are soooo good, we’re like 2-3 now.”
And you would have to be a complete moron to go for 2 there since UM had the mometum.

yo someone tell me what the **** happened when mesko started running with the ball? i nearly ripped my eyes out.

I was disapointed in the OL and RBs. I was also not too impressed by the DL. But our QB, WRs and DBs did a good job. Overall, MSU is a good team that played well, the weather was not ideal and the setting was definitely hostile. I am very impressed by Tate Forcier. If he can stay healthy, our team is going to go far with him. I see us finishing 8-4 this year, but the next couple of years, we should be able to have 10+ wins.

Have to disagree. WRs dropped at least 5 balls. Woolfolk, our safety, sucked. He had the worst game out of anyone. Our DL played pretty well. We got pressure on, but Cousins just stepped up and ran. That’s not the DL fault. Ezeh and Mouton shouldn’t be starters on any D1 college football team. They wouldn’t even be second stringers on most B10 teams.

Seriously, this matters because …

^ Some people are waaay too obsessed with sports lol =P

We’re not saying it matters. Watching college football is like a hobby. Hanging out with your friends doesn’t matter. You could say that for just about anything.
