I was up at berkeley and saw that al gore and the dali lama was coming to speak this week. i was wondering if famous lecturers also visit ucla like they do up north

Ban Ki-Moon was supposed to speak at the Burkle Center, but cancelled :[ Bill Clinton was supposed to speak during last year’s commencement but cancelled as well :[ Nancy Pelosi was actually here last week speaking in the Law school I think.

Hmm… why aren’t these things ever well publicized.

not someone of political importance, but rob mcelhenney (i’s always sunny in philadelphia) is coming this month… :p

There were signs plastered all over campus…

Tony Hawk is coming tomorrow

Bill Clinton actually did speak here Fall '07… it was early on a Saturday though and not well publicized so I don’t know how many students went. I think Bill Richardson was here too if you’re mainly interested in political speakers…

Sometimes there are celebrity speakers who come and do Q&A type things: I saw BJ Novak (Ryan from The Office) last year, and this year I saw Alan Rickman (and got his autograph!)

And every year there’s an event hosted at UCLA called the Festival of Books… last year I was able to hear Ray Bradbury (author of Fahrenheit 451), Julie Andrews (Marry Poppins!), and Maria Shriver speak. And this year Ray Bradbury is back (I think he comes every year) and Michael J. Fox is also speaking. (I think Gore Vidal is speaking as well…)

Are you referring to the time Clinton visited to give a speech in support of some proposition??

I honestly don’t remember, I just heard about it in passing from someone but I wasn’t able to go
