Is it better to have a 2400 on the SAT I (or above 2350), or three 800 SAT IIs?

I would have to say a 2400 on the SAT I. Basically when you take the SAT II’s you are presumably choosing exams that you think you have the best shot at excelling in.

Although, with that said, getting three 800’s on SAT II’s shows depth in subjects that you love.

In my opinion, if the subject tests are varied (a mix of humanities, math, and science) that shows much more intelligence than a 2400.

A 2400 on the SAT 1 is much more rare than three 800’s on the Subject Tests.

Ok, then. Let’s lower the bar. 2350 on SAT I, or 2400 SAT II?

2350 SAT I. Especially seeing as how there are quite a few asians who can easily get an 800 on both the Math II and in a foreign language they speak at home.

As someone who has 3 degrees from the Ivies, I vote for 2350 on the SAT.

“As someone who has 3 degrees from the Ivies”

And this supports your opinion how?

What about 2310 (my score, lol) SAT I or 2400 SAT II

^ It depends what the other scores are.

The SAT definitely. Stuff like Bio/USH SAT II’s are pure memorization…it is more difficult to do well on the SAT as it reflects your reasoning skills more than knowledge, and reasoning is more difficult to obtain by a large margin.

I think the cutoff is 2200 SAT=2400 SAT subject tests.

2400 on both DUHHHH

A lot of colleges don’t really care if you take the SAT IIs, especially if you’re taken AP tests and you have A’s in those classes. SAT I, however, is, considered by most colleges, a “real” measure of your ability to succeed in college.

The SAT 1Scores will have more weightage for the following reasons:

1) It is a comparative measure for everyone, so I know where the student stands with respect to the peer group as the student has to take the SAT or ACT,just two choices and a lot of reference data.

2) In SAT II there are many choices of subjects and possibilities. A 800 in MATH 1 may not equate to same level of Knowledge in MATH II. A person could theoretically take MATH 1 and MATH II as 2 of the SAT II tests and get 800 in both of them. So how do you compare a 800 in Psychology with a 800 in Chemistry. What the SAT II does is add to all your other stuff (grades, recommendations etc.) and assures the committee that you academic credentials is validated. In other words, from what I understand, the first set of gates is around SAT I and the only do they start looking at SAT II.

Again, we have to be clear about one thing. The answer to you question may be different if you worded this way

“Does it make a difference if I get 2350 in SAT 1 and 800 in each SAT II I take as opposed to 2400 in SAT 1 and 770 in each SAT 11 I take”
