Speaking various languages?

My Indian American friend applied to MIT and Columbia. He is fluent in English, Spanish, Hindi, Sindhi, and Gujarati.
How much will this help him in admissions? I know that these schools want diversity and Columbia has a tab for applicants to indicate what languages they speak fluently.
Will he be advantaged in any way?

By the way, he is also a first generation college student.

Will it help? No because there are many south Asians who will also apply and have multiple language ability. As will most immigrant kids.

I’d be inclined to agree with T26E4, but…If your friend plans on majoring or seeking a job in any field that has to do with a language he is fluent in, then that MIGHT make him a little bit of a better candidate than the next guy (assuming he qualifies just as well in the other aspects).

:) Tell him I said good luck.

Yep. It might be useful in a job interview w/a multinational corp but it’s run of the mill for MIT & Columbia applicant pool.

Could consider looking at a government job in the future too…
