Hey all, I was accepted ED to NU and I plan to be an econ major. Is anyone aware of any special programs that NU offers to econ majors? Also how does being an econ major at NU compare to being a student at a top business program such as Michigan's Ross School of Business?

Do you like math? You may want to check out MMSS. http://www.cas.northwestern.edu/mmss/prospective_students/
There's also a 4-yr BA/MA program.

Admission is competitive however.

If you are interested in business, you may (as many Econ majors do) want to look into a minor in Business Institutions (it's only offered as a minor). It's just a bunch of classes that have a very business-y side to them and it fleshes out an Econ major nicely.

If you want more business and less Econ/Math, you should also consider Learning & Organizational Change in SESP (learning about how to change organizations, with peripheral classes in social sciences), or even Industrial Engineering in McCormick (which has some business qualities but also a more science-y side).

I may be wrong, but as far as I know, if you are planning on getting an MBA, for admission into top b-schools an economics major is much better than a business major, especially from a very well known undergrad b-school. Atleast thats what I understood from the "Business School - MBA" forum in CC. So atleast in that aspect, you would have an advantage.
