Special International Student Program

My dad emailed/phoned me today (I'm in college), and asked me to help a kid of a friend of his. This kid is in one of the best public high schools in a mid size city in China. Supposedly, WUSTL went to his school to recruit, and all he has to do is to send them a recommendation letter and a self recommendation letter to be considered. If he passes "round one", he will have to do an interview in the U.S. Then he may be admitted, and get scholarships (up to a full ride). And throughout this whole process, he does not have to do any standardized testing, applications, essays etc. Just the teacher recommendation letter and self recommendation letter, and the interview at the end. My dad said that it's some special program that WUSTL has. I've looked all over the internet, and I've seen nothing about such a program. Is there something like this at WUSTL? I've talked to my friends, we've all gone through the application process, and have never encountered anything close to this. I think it's a scam, but my dad is adamant that it's legit. Supposedly they came through with the government or something, meaning it's not a private agency. I'm not too clear on the details. But has anyone here heard of anything like this?

Wow, like you said, it sounds really shaky.

I seriously doubt there are any such programs at WashU, and I’m a high school student from China. I still have to do the entire application process and apply to the scholarships separately.

I think the best bet would be to e-mail or call WashU.

this sounds like one of those scam emails asking you to invest in a nigerian prince’s bank account. ask the wash u admissions office.
