I posted this on the other Trinity board but it doesn't seem like anyone goes there:

Did anyone else get letters this week about signing up for consideration for the Cities Program? I did, couldn't believe that the giant envelope I got today wasn't the good news I hoped it was.
Anyone thinking of joining a program? Any ideas how this reflects/ affects admission?

My D also received a letter about the Cities program yesterday. She has signed up for it as she really found it a great part of Trinity's overall program. We also thought it was the "big envelope". Does anyone know when she will find out?

My D. also was invited to Cities Program and then Guided Studies. I believe this is a form of likely letter for Trinity. She has friends at the college that are in Guided Studies and they know of some in the Cities Program. Guided Studies is an older more established program which is wrinting intensive and does add greatly to the work load paper and reading wise. It is a compliment to be asked to apply for either.

i got the letter for the cities program and am goign to apply because, more than anything, i think it would be a good bonding opportunity
i dont know what bearing -if any -i think it has on admissions, but i'd apply just to be safe, show continued interest

Do we have to apply? I thought that you just had to contact the Dean? And so its kind of like a likely letter? Because in the letter they say that it does not necessarily mean that we got in...

You need to email the dean to be condsidered for the programs after receiving the "invitation". If you have been asked into the honors program of a school, I think it is more than reasonable to say you have more than a good shot you are in, barring any unresolved issues with your app. The colleges need to put in a disclaimer so the have a loophole of sorts and stay within their set guidelines for admission. The letter states you are considered for the program not definately in. I would imagine they need to see how many are interested. They try to limit the number of candidates for an effective program. Contact the dean and see what his response is to your email.

As much as I'd like to believe it, I'm a little skeptical about this being the form of a 'likely letter,' it seems as though far too many people received it. Anyone know from last year about people who received this or something similar and were ultimately rejected?

I got one for some European Civilizatons program today and the Cities one yesterday...Todays mailing did say that the Admissions Office said I was acadmically qualified.

I got a "big envelope" that last year for a specific program and a week or two later I got my acceptance letter - so I'm not sure how it works but it seems to me that if they have looked that carefully at your application to know which program/programs you might be suited for, it's a good bet they want you at the school.

Good luck to all of you. I'm having the tike of my life here!

I also received info about the Cities Program. It says in the letter that I got that there are 3 other similar programs. I'm assuming that in order to be considered for one of those also I'd have to have gotten a packet from it too? I'd like to know more about the Interdisciplinary Science Program too, but I guess I wasn't selected for that one...did anyone get packets the science program and can you tell me about it? Also, is there more info about these programs online?

I'll probably apply for the Cities Program and see what happens since it's not binding. Just from reading the letter it sounds pretty awesome. Also sounds like a good sign as far as our chances for admission to the College (knock on wood). Congrats to the others who also received the packets!

I also received a packet and letter from the Guided Studies Program today. I'm not much of a history person, and after taking AP Euro, I've had about as much European History as I can stand; so, I won't be applying for this one.

Has anyone gotten anything from the ISP (Interdisciplinary Science Program)???

Same here, missariella. Is the Human Rights one a program or just a major/minor? I got info about it a while ago (before I applied to Trinity), but I haven't gotten a chance to go back and read it.

I believe it's a minor.
A mother posted in another thread about her son getting Guided Studies info and then getting waitlisted. I guess it's not as promising as we might have hoped...

well that stinks. after a disappointment from haverford today, i was looking forward to good news from trinity, but i guess i shouldn't get my hopes up...

Didn't mean to get you down- I'm a bit of a pessimist. If it helps, she didn't say so exactly, more insinuated. It's in the "How kids are finding out" thread in the parents forum.
I'm sorry about Haverford, but I'm sure the right school will work out.
Will you go to Trinity if accepted? I'm liking it more everyday.
