Special talent/admission chances

My GPA and rank is very good. My ACT is below a 30. I do have a lot of recognition for music (awards, etc.). I should be able to get great recommendations and I think I have a great essay in the works....does a "special talent" tip the scales in favor of admission, especially if the music faculty is interested in me? I plan to double major (music being one of those majors)

I believe so as long as you send audition tapes. It can't hurt at the very least!

It could hurt if you arnt very talented at your special talent.....lolz

How so? Thanks for your input

Well I am just saying if your main positive aspect of your app is your musical ability...and they hear the tape and the music person doesnt find it very appealing..then it wouldnt be beneficial..... it was more of a joke........but i see that you have one a lot of awards so i would do it......

Thanks for your help Chillin'. I think everything from my GPA to my easay to my references to my EC are great...but my ACT score isn't GREAT. I was hoping that my musical ability might help me. I visited Washington University and the choral director told me that he was going to talk to admissions on my behalf after my visit with him. I will be making audition CDs and submitting them. Who knows, everyone is looking for that special "hook" that might make the difference between rejection or acceptance. So many wonderful and talented students...and so little room....Thanks, Chillin'

True True... well good luck.... Good Luck on your apps (if you are a senior)

Yep...I'm a senior and just getting ready to get my teachers and counselor working on my info. I'm also touring some more colleges in early November. I guess ND and Washington U are my dream schools and a reach. St. Louis University has accepted me, but I doubt that they will offer me the money I need. I need to add a few "safety" schools to the roster....it is hard when you are so busy at school to decide what schools are a good fit and THEN if you can afford them. My parents have two in grad schol next year and me in college plus a younger brother in a private high school. I'm hoping that all counts for something on the FAFSA. Thanks, Chillin'
