Special Treatment for Celebs?

Can someone tell me why Linsay Lohan doesn't need to see any jail time after being arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license (not 1st time DUI offender) and felony drug possession? Did the charges somehow drop or she wasn't convicted? Was the case somehow settled by some plea agreements? Is this a typical outcome for people who aren't celebs? If not, what contributes the difference (e.g. better defense lawyers?). I am just trying to comprehend the justice system.

Well- I will admit that I do follow the Lindsay Lohan saga a bit more closely than alot of other posters on these boards. Her family lives in my town. She attended grade school ( up until 2nd grade (?) and she returned for a few months in 10th grade) with d # 1 and her brother graduated HS with d #2. And for those interested they did attend the neighborhood public school. And yes- the family is still in the neighborhood.
Anyway- getting back to Lindsay- I think she has a court date later this summer. So Lindsay has not yet been given a pass-- she may be facing serious jail time.
Actually, there is so much publicity with these type of cases, that sometimes the Judge may give an even harsher sentence just to give the appearance of not giving special treatment.
