Is there a particular time period during which one must take the SAT test that is confirming the PSAT score? I have read the official guide from NMSC, and it just says "take the SAT." Does a test taken last June qualify?

Any SAT date will qualify. My son took SATs in March and was happy with the score so that will be sent toward finalist status. However if your s or d wasn’t happy with SAT scores so far, he/she can retake them in Oct and afterwards send them to NMSC, I believe. Just double check deadlines for SAT to be sent on NMSC site.

My son has conflicts with the Oct. SAT dates–would the November date be too late?

@lwild – according to d’s packet: If you have not yet taken the SAT: Register NOW to take the SAT on one of the following dates: October 9, November 6, December 4. We urge you to take the SAT no later than November 7 and not wait until December.

NMSF accepts SATs taken from October 2008 through December 2010.

Thanks. His June score was high enough to confirm the PSAT, and we are all collectively happy to have standardized testing behind us. I thought that earlier tests could be submitted, but have not seen anything from NMSC that precisely lays it out.

Thanks mommafrog. We’re in ACT country and him doing so well on the PSAT was a terrific surprise. Just figuring all this out, so your advice is a great help. Homecoming is Oct. 9, along with all the student government things that come along with it the evening before, so the November date works much better for him.

UT84321,(I’m a Utah girl myself) glad your testing is over!

Any SAT test by Dec of senior year can be sent and be qualified.

^clarification: any test between October 2008 and December 2010.

This gives you the timetable clearly

*
7. Take the current SAT® and earn scores that confirm your 2009 PSAT/NMSQT performance. You must take (or have taken) a national administration of the SAT between October 2008 and December 2010.

Also, it is your responsibility to file a request with the College Board SAT Program to have an official report of your SAT scores sent to NMSC (code 0085). See page 2 of this leaflet for detailed information about authorized SAT administrations and score reporting.*
