Specific Requirements?

Are there any specific computer programs that Wash U requires? I am about to buy a new lap top and I want to make sure I am buying everything I need and nothing I don't.

Considering the fact that they say that you don't even necessarily need a computer, I would guess no.

ouch, that was harsh

I recently graduated from WashU (like two weeks ago), so I can help answer some questions about the school.

New Computer for WashU??? Well, since WashU does not actually require a computer, there are no real requirements. However, I strongly recommend purchasing a computer if you don't have one. There are many times when the residential printers are out of ink or paper and you have no where to print. Also, the residential computers and the lab computers are frequently in use.

If you are interested in purchasing a computer, it depends on what school you are entering. Remember, there is a school of Art, Business, Arts & Sciences, Architecture, and Engineering. Below are the links that you will definitely find benificial.

One more thing... Since the campus is pretty much all wirelessly networked, you are better off getting a laptop. ... Also, there will be times when you can drag it to class when you give a presentation to the class. You're going to want to have that flexibility.

Business: http://www.olin.wustl.edu/computing/purchasing/std-student.cfm
Engineering: http://www.cec.wustl.edu/help.aspx?page=45&treepath=0.10
Art: Macintoshes are required ... http://www.apple.com/education/profiles/wustl/
Architecture: Not sure.
Arts & Sciences: I'd recommend getting a Windows-based computer. Probably equivalent to the School of Business requirements should be sufficient

Good luck. Have fun at WashU. I loved it there!

Wow, I didn't mean that as a "duh, you're stupid" thing. Sorry if it seemed that way. I was just making a neutral statement.
