<p>I am in the process of writing my personal statement for my application for a PhD in either pharmacology or biomedical sciences, and I am having a lot of problems with specificity regarding my future research plans. I know I want to study pharmacogenomics, but is it necessary for me to be more specific? For example, I could say pharmacogenomics of cancer or pharmacodynamic-specific pharmacogenomics, but I'm worried that if I get more specific, a lot of the schools I'm applying to will overlook me because of the narrowness of my interests. The relative newness of pharmacogenomics makes me unwilling to pigeonhole myself into an even more specific research aim.</p>
