speech pathology

Can anyone recommend a graduate school for my daughter whom is very bright, very active but GPA was a 3.4? We are having major difficulties finding a school to accept her. She graduated this year from Ithaca College.

Thanks.

What do you mean you are finding major difficulties? Did she apply last year and not get in? And if she didn’t, is there a reason why? Or are you just assuming that she might not be admitted? A 3.4 is not low.

There are tons of universities that offer MS programs in SLP. What is she looking for?

Here[/url”>http://www.asha.org/edfind/results.aspx?area=ALL&degree=MASTERS&location=ALL]Here is a list of master’s programs in SLP and related fields. If you are in-state to NY, there are 5 SUNYs and 4 CUNYs that offer an MS in SLP.

Thank you so much for your recommendations! My daughter and her roommate from Ithaca both applied to ten graduate schools and both were rejected from all. They are two good students!! Heard there are only 30 openings to 300 applications! Insane.

I graduated with the same degree but don’t plan to attend grad school. Competition is fierce. A 4.0 in all courses in the major is expected. Students who are rejected their first try should ask their advisor how to increase their chances. A friend and fellow student was advised to use that time wisely with an internship, volunteering at a special needs camp or working with a professor on research prior to applying again. These types of activities show your level of commitment and will greatly increase your odds of being accepted, plus the professionals you work with should be willing to write a recommendation, which carries a lot of weight.

Does anyone know of a non competitive grad programs for speech lang pathology? Which states?

I know two individuals in the field with masters degrees from inexpensive state schools with not-so-hot reputations (in general, I’m not sure what the reps for those programs in particular are). They both gained employment immediately upon graduation and are making respectable salaries. These schools were in northeast PA. I’m sure there are plenty of less competitive programs out there - but competition for jobs will vary based on the demand for SLP professionals in the area.
