The story of two fighter pilots--the woman was in Inside America's Military Academies.

I thank you for educating me! :D

Ah.. I was lost.. Now found.

I wish they would/could do a reality show at USNA. So we moms (and dads) could see inside. A good read is ABSOLUTELY AMERICAN.. but about West Point. Wish that writer would spend 4 yrs at USNA and write a navy version!

Ooh! I'd love to be a producer/gaffer/best boy on the wall when they do!

Speed and Angels on its way.

I totally agree with MOM2LOLA- 'Absolutely American' is an outstanding read.

Just finished watching Speed and Angels. It's a good 95 minute DVD for anyone interested in flying for the Navy. While it doesn't cover the USNA time period (mainly post flight school) it really hits home how HARD it is for these 24 year old "kids" to make it to carrier status. A must see for anyone wanting to Fly Navy.

I was meaning to order that movie; good thing it's getting great reviews.

I just finished Absolutely American; one of the better books I've ever read. As for Naval Academy books, I've read "Tales from Annapolis" and "Leadership: The Annapolis Way". Both are good. I'm also planning on buying "Annapolis Autumn" and "Dink Gadink"; both are supposed to be pretty good.

I found "Annapolis Autumn" disappointing. Bruce Fleming, a longtime English instructor @ USNA, has an ego the size of Bancroft. As critical as he is of the academy and the midshipmen's intellectual abilities, it's amazing that he opts to continue teaching there.

Fleming was my teacher.

After reading part of AA, I was sure I knew my mid's English teacher--I was right. She has him this semester too, and we're both less than impressed. Can you say t e n u r e...

All in the name of "academic freedom." Sounds like mediocrity may require tenure's protection for sure. And no doubt other institutions are not interested in him transferring that to their campus. So @ Annap he shall sit, it would seem. I'll bet he didn't pen such pre-tenure. They never do.
