speed reading.

in hs, i felt like i was taking longer than most kids to read a given amount. after i read, i comprehend it very well, but i feel like it takes too long.

have any of you ever taken a speed reading class?
did it help/work?
do you think it would be a benefit to take one before the start of college?

thanks

i've never taken speed reading classes, etc. but i'd say focus on two points

1) a lot of college IS reading
2) the majority of that reading is on your own

do you read a lot now? if you don't, I would save your money and just spend some time reading books and getting yourself accostumed to reading on your own, as opposed to taking classes.

i dont really read a lot on my own, maybe like 2-3 books/summer (aps wear me out during the year)...i know reading on your own would help to an extent, but the classes are supposed to "double your textbook reading speed, and increase regular reading by 3," by developing skills to read whole lines of text at a time, rather than word by word reading.

my mom says that it would be good for me (she took one when she was younger), and im trying to decide if i should take the class.

idk it seems kinda like a psychological thing, but if it helps you (for whatever reason) you'll probably save a good chunk of time reading for college
