Was reading a bit about this in another thread and instead of hijacking it, i decided to post here.....
well, I've always seen myself as a relatively slow reader, which will hurt you on the SAT, and more so on the ACT.
looked into speed reading before, but never taken and class or read a book about it.

The poster of the other thread mentioned 'eyeQ'.

Does anyone (that is experienced with speed reading) suggest getting a book/program on speed reading (can't really do a class) for the sake of helping ACT, SAT scores and somewhat to just improve reading speed? This is considering that I will be taking the ACT/SAT this Fall...

kinda looking for a cost (time, money)/benefit deal.

Great Post... Bump!

I'm using something called "Speed Your Read." It's not bad, and it's pretty cheap (about $20, I think). It helped me read a lot faster. I hope it helps you. :)

I say don't use any programs, just work backwards. Skim the passage to get the main idea, read the questions, and find the answer. For the ACT, you won't have the hunt or infer anything; the answers will be in plain sight. On the other hand, SAT passages are shorter, but need more reasoning. Although speed reading does help a lot, it isn't needed to get a 36 on ACT Reading or an 800 on SAT CR.

You should definitely try Breakthrough Rapid Reading by Peter Kump (only $16.95). Its an amazing book that walks you through speed reading. My reading speed when up by almost 2 times and I'm only half way through the book right now.

I like the step method for speed reading. I read the first sentence of each paragraph. You would be surprised at how much useless filler content there is in an essay.
