Speeding tickets

My daughter rec'd her appointment letter back in October but has yet to send in her acceptance letter. We've been waiting just in case she were to injure herself doing school sports which would preclude her attending USNA.

This weekend she rec'd two traffic violations in one police stop, one for failure to come to a complete stop at a red light and the other a pretty hefty speeding ticket. As we have yet to submit the "police record check" which will show the tickets, will this have repercussions on her future admittance to USNA?

First:
I don’t know why one would delay sending the acceptance letter if one wanted to attend. I would also accept back-up school and send a deposit. This is the insurance for an injury which would disqualify attendance at USNA. Many on this forum have called back-up school explaining the situation and were able to get their deposits back if back-up school was notified by a certain date after I-day.

Second:
I don’t have a crystal ball to tell what the implications would be for your daughter, but my son got two speeding tickets within two weeks after he sent in his acceptance. (I do not recall if the police record check had been sent or not.) He sent in the notification to USNA, and the outcome (“reduced to parking violation”). It did not affect his status. He was told later, that the Academy is not looking for perfection.

I was given a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt and a warning for driving without my license. I reported both the ticket and warning when I sent in the packet I got with my acceptance letter. This isnt serious enough to hurt my chances, right?

I’ve only forgotten my wallet (with drivers license inside) about 3 times, and one of those days was the day I get pulled over…figures.

I would not be overly concerned about speeding tickets etc. These are misdemenor traffic offenses. Don’t lie about them if asked but these are not problems.

Problems from traffic offenses that would affect your admissions are a DUI or an incident where you are negligent and injure someone, these would be show stoppers for your plans to attend any of the academies.
