I’ve recently been admitted to a few UC’s, however, I’ve been thinking about just avoiding this mess of a year and reapplying for fall 2021. Yes, I have considered deferring enrollment, but you’re not allowed to take classes at other universities, and I want to stay busy, to keep taking classes. I would have completed IGETC and my major prep this semester. I know there’s no guarantee I’d be accepted again (besides TAG) but I’d probably get my GPA higher over the next two semesters. What do y’all think? Anyone else in the same boat?
@uctransfernick what is your major? i can provide more insight on whether it is a better to choice to stay at cc depending on your major
Political science
If you stay another year, you could be losing time in taking you upper division courses for your major. Have you looked at the courses that you have to take at the UC’s that you’re considering and seeing how long it would take when you transfer to complete everything?
I’m not so worried about the time. It’s one year of my life, which I think is pretty insignificant. I’d plan on spending at least two years at whatever UC I ended up at.
sounds reasonable in the current climate. At this point CSU has already announced the Fall will be online. The UCs may follow suit, and it may go into the entire academic year. Just like it’s a good idea to avoid graduating into a deep recession by staying in school another year, it seems like a good idea to avoid missing out on one of the only two years you’d spend as a xfer at a UC.
I agree with @mikemac. What’s a year in the scope of things (I took an extra year) and currently you will be missing a lot that colleges have to offer.
Thanks for the feedback guys.
I’m thinking about the same thing.
I’m a Computer Science major and I got accepted into UCSD, UCI, UCD but now I plan to stay in cc for another year and reapply next term.
Do you have any insight into my major? do you think it’ll be more competitive next year?
I’ve finished all major classes (CS, all 3 calc), IGETC already, and have only a B in data structures with a 3.96 GPA, honestly, I don’t have much class to take in cc for the next year except for differential eq.
But I really wouldn’t wanna spend my 2-year college life this way.
@raylegend Don’t worry, I’m pretty sure that you’ll be fine applying next year. Your GPA is top-notch (enough for those 3 schools, even for that major), so I wouldn’t sweat it. I think 2022 will be the year when things get tough, because of the current HS seniors who are going to CC starting this fall. So 2021 would probably still be safe. You really need to make the most out of the 2 years you’re at a school, so I’d try applying next year if I were you.
Yeah everything is just so unclear right now. I’m just going to take classes that seem interesting to me and make sure I keep getting straight A’s.
I’m thinking about doing the same thing. The thing is I don’t have high GPA, and my major is CS. It’s prolly not a good idea to stay one more year at CCC to me. But, I just want to give a shot again. I also finished requirements and IGETC.
@wannagoback No, you shouldn’t stay another year. According to a reply in your profile, you have a 3.65. There is a big difference between a 3.9-4.0 and a 3.65, so I really wouldn’t expect any different results if you applied again next year with a similar GPA. One more semester isn’t going to bump it up that much.
@engineertransfer that’s what I’m thinking too. but what if I apply non cs major? like applied math.
@wannagoback You’ll have a better chance, but honestly I wouldn’t do it unless you’re a math wizard. I’ve done a decent amount of research, and basically math is really hard because it gets pretty theoretical (at least for the core courses). Software engineering careers don’t have any of that math involved, so it’s kinda useless to spend 2+ years on that. It isn’t worth it to run yourself into the ground just to go here (there are better choices out there).
@engineertransfer Yeah, I know what you mean. Thanks for the advice. I already got into few schools as math major. I really like to do math and I’m still working as math tutor in ccc. However, I really don’t want to be a math major. I applied some school as CS because I knew CS is too competitive. I really don’t know what to do right now. so far, my plan is go to wherever school I got in, and then study CS by my own or change my major.
