RL polos on ebay go for $10-20 new. There's no reason to go to the store or even an outlet.

Mzhang23 and Butterfly, how do you know they're real? $20 sounds like a great deal but I've heard ebay is riddled with RL and Lacoste fakes. Is there something you look for to tell they're real, or is there a certain seller you trust, etc.?

Real. Check user feedback. If they're in the hundreds/thousands, there's no way they'll try to rip you off with fake stuff. Especially if you buy New With Tag products.

As someone else said here, the cultural events on campus are free or very cheap. And the Street makes it possible for students to have little to no spending money. Princeton students do go out to dinner sometimes, but more often they go to the eating clubs, where everything is free. As for the initial eating club cost, when you look at the cost of room and board at some other Ivies, Princeton is very comparable, even including the eating club, because Princeton's tuition is one of the lowest, if not the lowest, in the Ivy League.

They can still rip you off, especially if they make heavy use of feedback auctions. At least with designer bags, they can come "new with tags" and have sellers with very high feedback and a crappy fake bag can go for 2,000+ dollars. You really never know, unless you're practiced at spotting fakes.

Last time I checked, I thought Easter bunnies brought eggs and chocolates, not RL sweaters... but hey, that's not a bad alternative!

When (if at all) do students on campus use a credit card? Is it mostly for emergencies, the once-in-a-while dinner, for shopping in town?

Well, he brought those things too, but I guess this year he thought that I needed color-coordinated attire to match the eggs. ;)

Thanks for all the advice on eBay, Mzhang and Prettyfish. I'll check it out, cautiously.

Dvd, post 17, "Board" is meals, and the typical freshman 3-meal-per-day plan (two on Sunday because there is brunch) is about $4000 for the year. You can eat at any residential college, so you can meet friends from other colleges or have cc reunions over meals. You can also eat at Frist if you miss meals, I believe.
If you are getting financial aid: room and board as well as tuition, books and personal expenses, and travel allowances (unless you live close), are figured in the costs/aid.
First year and second year, you are in your dining halls, and then for your last two years you are in either an eating club, on a meal plan, or cooking for yourself or with a group of friends in the upperclassman housing.

Pegdiver, thanks for the thanks :) !

Gianievve, I don't know what everyone does, but I think the situation you describe is pretty much on the money, and it is what my child does: has a credit card, uses it once in a while, pays it off each month but is building a credit history. There are atms, so you don't need a credit card I don't think, but it might be handy in case of emergencies as you say. I would not recommend it for the fiscally irresponsible or shopaholics. All those cute little stores would be tempting...

Re: RL polo shirts. Should anyone get the idea that those are de rigueur, you can wear whatever you want. As far as I know, my kid doesn't even own a polo shirt, at least not the short-sleeved logo kind. Does wear Princeton gear; it is a spirited place!

is it also true that if you're an RA, your food and room are covered? sign me up if that's true!

yah polo shirts don't work on me, so i don't even try and pull em off. i'm excited for my p-ton gear. it's gonna rock. i definitely told my friends to go for the spirit wear for my birthday!

Polos are comfy though. But not as cozy as hoodies.
However, I imagine some people get Princeton Swimming & Diving gear... which would be very cool.

RA/RCA, now that's a thought! Won't work freshman year though. I think you have to be a soph. to apply, then you can do it jr and sr years. I don't know all the requirements, but I have heard that you get room and board, or some board (like, maybe not three meals a day). Worth checking out, good idea!

G'night and happy early birthday, Pegdiver.
