Wow! D didn’t have anything close to that! about $1500 but we’ve been making her pay us back our auto deductible all year (she had an accident) and her job didn’t give her the expected hours this summer.

D has about $2000 in her checking account, minus whatever she spent this past week! Like I mentioned before, when that runs out, she has to find a campus job.

S2 will have about $1200 in his bank account when he heads to college, which represents summer earnings and graduation gifts. We will probably help with textbooks this fall since he didn’t get nearly the # of hours at his job he anticipated. He also has about $2k in a savings account here which he can’t access at school. This is his emergency/study abroad expense fund.

He and I figure that a relatively low starting balance will give him motivation to get out and find a job on campus.
