Spent 1/2 semester at uni. Withdrew for medical reasons. Do I have to say I went there?

I transfered from a community college to a 4-year uni but withdrew half way through the my only semester there for medical reasons. I was told that the Ws I received in all my classes were “medical” Ws and, therefore, would not count against me in the case of a transfer like regular Ws would. I’m now back at the community college and plan to transfer again.

I spoke to a counselor at my school and he told me that I do not even need to tell the school I’m transferring to that I ever attended the 4-year uni at all since I didnt receive any grades. Now, I would play it safe and just send the transcripts anway, but I’m afraid they won’t specify that the Ws were taken for medical reasons. I don’t believe my application has a personal essay of any kind, or even anywhere to write notes in case I need to clarify something. I don’t want to just send a list of Ws with no way of explaining them.

On top of all of this, the application is due in 2 days… The school’s website said undergrads could transfer for winter quarter but when I called asking where to find the winter application, they said they only accept apps for fall, so I’ve had to scramble to make sure everything was in order so I could apply by the fall deadline of Nov 30. I don’t know if I can submit it on the 30th or if the 30th is the day they don’t take any more applications. The 30th is a monday, so I can’t call the admissions office before the 30th to ask this question, and I don’t know if the application will be closed by then, which is why I’m asking it here.

Thanks in advance

If you have W grades then you have an academic record. It is probably a good idea to send the transcript and point out in your personal statement that you had to take the W for medical reasons.

Your counselor is confused. Once you have a transcript - even if it is all Ws - you have to send it.

If there is no space in the application to state why you withdrew, send an email to the transfer admissions office about the medical withdrawal.

Then, on Monday, give the admissions office a call to verify that they have indeed received everything. That will give you another opportunity to discuss anything that needs to be discussed with a real human being in that office.

yes you have to disclose it.
Colleges use National Clearinghouse to investigate the college enrollment history of ALL students. Trying to hide any past college enrollment history will get you expelled.

Thanks everyone, I disclosed it. I will ask the admissions office to make a note of the circumstance

The only way you wouldn’t have to mention it is if you have no transcript. Meaning nothing listed. Any W will be listed. But don’t worry about it. List the school, list the Ws and note in the additional comments that you had a medical withdrawal. It will not impact your admission.

And be sure to list the college because if they do a search of the national student clearinghouse and find you attended but never listed it, you could put your application in jeopardy.

UPDATE: good. I didn’t see your update… Or anyone else’s… B-)
