Spirit Groups?

Hello!

I was looking to join a spirit group at UT, but I wasn't sure what the reputation was or how valuable it would be for me. I just finished my first year at the University, but I'm still trying to find a good group of people to be friends with. I'm into light partying (I don't mind partying every other week or few weeks, but I do not want to be partying every weekend), but it's not my main focus. I love the service and spirit parts of the groups. I want to go to games and do adventurous things in Austin and help out as much as I can. Will these groups be beneficial for me at all as I become more career-oriented? Also, how expensive are spirit groups? I was looking to rush for Texas Royals or Texas Lassos. There isn't a lot of information about spirit groups, so anything at all would be super helpful. Thank you!

Hi hpstarz,
I am currently in a spirit group at UT and I seriously recommend going to as many spirit group info sessions as possible at the beginning of the semester. Each spirit group at UT suites different types of girls. That being said, the best way to find which spirit group is a best fit for you is to talk to actives within the spirit groups during the info sessions. Most spirit groups at UT will have a networking system for career focused stuff, considering most groups have a lot of alumni. Spirit groups will have different amounts for dues, t shirts, events, and etc throughout the year, but I know dues for your first semester can range from as high as $400 to much lower. All the specifics for each group should be discussed in the info sessions. So please go to as many as possible.

Hi! Do you mind sharing what spirit group you’re a part of? I’m planning on rushing 3 groups. Should I try out for more?

I would rather not say which spirit group that I am a part of just to keep things unbiased for anyone that is interested in joining a spirit group. But to answer your other question, trying out for 3 groups should be plenty. With all of the applications, meet and greets, and info sessions I would not do more than 3. Best of luck to you!!!

Pay for friends and connections. Okay. =Rah Rah.

If you’re looking for light partying, those are probably not the groups to go into. try going for something like Forever Texas, Cowgirls or Ladybirds.
