Split Double or Open Double Rooms?

What is the general feeling about these dorm rooms? Which is more desirable? I imagine the split double works when the roommates might not be compatible. Any thoughts from current students are appreciated.

Hi!
I am a current student at SU and live in a split double. However, I never got to choose which one I wanted, it just happened to be that way.
I preferred an open originally so I could get the whole “college experience,” but the split seems to work best now because my roommate (who was randomly selected) constantly Skypes her boyfriend and always has her lights on, so its nice to block that out, somewhat.

Not a current student, but About 700 years ago I lived in a split double in Brewster and it was AWESOME… and my roommate was a good friend from HS, and he went home every weekend to see his GF. Even then I loved it. You can’t see their mess and they can’t see yours!

Location, however, is more important. In my day those steps up the hill were uncovered and in winter it was a giant luge.

Like the current student above said, you don’t really get a choice. Keep in mind that splits are different in different dorms. In Ernie Davis there’s 6 feet of space between the door and the split. In Sadler there’s only as much space as the door is wide and then it splits. This causes very different experiences. I’ve lived in both Ernie and Sadler and been in a lot of the other dorms so if you have any questions feel free to ask!

You can see the floorplans (that may not be updated to reflect renovations) online. Also, keep in mind that different dorms also have different bathroom layouts which can be important as well–possibly even more important than the rooms.
