Split on Essay Topic. Please Help.

So I originally planned on having my essay be about my passion: Speech and Debate. It's far and away my most important E.C and I figured my best chance would be make it my common app essay topic so it's really stressed on my application. I wrote the essay and it turned out good so I thought that was the end of it. But then, while writing a supplemental essay, I made an essay about my childhood. After finishing the essay I really liked it because I felt it made me stick out more than my Speech Essay. It focuses on my mother's drug addiction to meth and heroine and how it affected me growing up and how it has changed my perspective on life now. Both the essays are pretty good but which do you guys think the better topic would be given my situation? Any advice would be appreciated.

It’s very hard to give advice without reading the essays. I think it’s less about the topic (although that is a crucial component), but more about how you write it and how genuine it sounds.

I would recommend letting parents, teachers, or fellow CCers read the essay and have them give you feedback. They can provide some insight as to which essay you should choose. Maybe the essay that stands out more will not be the one you think is better. Get some second opinions.
