Spop 2006

what exactly is spop and what do you do... I heard its a three day thing where you meet your dormates and stuff. i heard its alot of fun.

SPOP stands for Student-Parent Orientation Program. It's pretty cool. They stick you in a residence hall with some SPOP staffers (upperclass students) and you go to academic advising during the day and also learn about the different resources that are offered on campus. You also get to eat your meals in the dining commons. You also get to meet a ton of people and make friends before school starts. You won't be with the people from your dorm, however. But there is a chance that maybe one or two people from your SPOP hall will end up in your residence hall.

Parents can also come, and they house them separately from the students and you hardly see them at all during your time there. They do special presentations for the parents.

I had a great time. We pretty much stayed up the entire time we were there. I probably slept for about 45 minutes total over two nights. While most people loved SPOP, I know a few that absolutely hated it. But it's definitely worth the time and money, in my opinion.

Yeah it was cool when I did it. I got very little sleep as well (although more than Alicantekid) and then drove back 6 hours to norcal the next day. I made it fine, but don't do that. Bad idea.
