You should choose classes for the major you want to switch into if there is space. You can’t transfer into Bus. Admin, Enginerring, Nursing, and maybe some others. The ones you can transfer into should be listed online somewhere. You also attend academic counseling for the major that you want to switch into, so they can help you plan out your new schedule.

will major changes officially happen at spop or do we have to wait?

For major changes, they’ll instruct you to go to a different advising session than your original major after the welcome… lecture… thing. Like, if you were in a Humanities major switching to Anthropology, they’d tell you to go to the School of Social Sciences’ advising session, instead of the Humanities one.

They’ll tell you all about it once you get there, so no worries. A lot of people I know changed their majors while they were at SPOP-- no problem! c: But only those majors that are open.

As for official or not, I’m not sure. I don’t really think it matters since you just sign up for the classes you want and it doesn’t really affect you.

For Orientation I’m thinking about bringing my cousin who is a recent graduate from UCI. Just to show me around and show me where my classes would be and talk and stuff about what to expect and which professor to take. I was wondering whether this would be a good or bad idea. I know that we have that big gap in time like from 12pm-5pm to dawdle around, but I don’t want to make him drive back and forth or wander around while I was doing SPOP stuff. Can he just walk around with the SPOP group as if he was like a student attending UCI?

Thanks.

Okay, well, the thing is: I’m planning on switching to engineering. & everyone says you can’t do it. But I should take classes for engineering anyway, right? Even though at this moment, I can’t switch?

@Msllavore I agree with taking classes towards the major you want. If that isnt possible, then take classes that fulfill your GEs. It would be a waste for you to take classes that wouldnt fulfill either your GEs or the major you want.

spop was chill. I got what I wanted out of it (despite the fact that i had to leave early). For those wondering about enrolling in classes, i suggest you make a plan beforehand of the classes and the teachers you want. I thought that it would be 1 on 1 advising kind of thing, but yeah your on your own to decide which classes and which teachers to chose from (assuming you met the prereqs for some classes). The advisors do reccomend what classes you should take…but if you know what you need to take then your free to do so. There are some classes, however, that are limited to certain majors…bbut not much. This was engineering advising btw.

so if you want to take classes for the current major you so desire, just do it. Hopefully it won’t be limited to those who declared that major. Btw take my advise lightly…really lightly because this probably won’t be the case for other schools? idk…but its just an fyi kinda thing

Is there a one day orientation for freshmen?
