My goal is to become a Sport Agent and I looked around and I think that getting a Sport Management degree for my Undergraduate then going to law school. Do you guys think that is the best I idea or should I get my undergraduate in something else

bump up to top

I think you need to do some research into Sports Management. Some will have the major in the business school, others in hospitality and recreation type programs, and others in entertainment. They can have very different emphasis. Check out where they place their interns and what kind of jobs graduates get. If grad school is in your plans, you’ll want to make sure you’re in program where you can maintain a good GPA as well.

I know UMass Amherst has a sport management program that is well regarded, but if your goal is to become a sports lawyer, you might want a more traditional major like econ or government or another social science. I’d second the idea that you need to do research into the kinds of courses that are required by the various sports management programs. Law school admissions are very competitive. GPA is important as is the LSAT exam. You can only help yourself by taking the most rigorous courses as an undergrad, which is why you need to investigate the various sport management programs.

Do a search on cc on “sports management.” There are several prior threads on this topic mentioning schools and programs. You can also google “Top undergraduate sports management programs” and see what comes up.

Keep in mind that many students change their majors more than once during the first two years, so you want to be happy with the entire school, not just the sports mgt. program.

The most important issue is going to be what you can afford, especially since you will almost certainly need to pay for grad school (either law or business).

The University of Georgia offers a great Sports Management program. The robust student life will also allow you to build up your ECs for law school.
