I have been accepted into the UF Class of 2021 and am seriously considering attending. I am very passionate about sports and if I were to attend UF I would almost certainly major in Sport Management and pursue a career with a sports organization. Can any current or former student of the major give me some more information about it? Are the classes interesting or were you disappointed with them?
I wonder why this program isn’t in the business school.
The kids who are majoring in Sports Management are having a tough time finding jobs. Very few end up working for a pro sports team. Most end up in a non sports profession like retail with academy and dick’s while others take jobs with colleges and high schools and grass roots sporting ventures. Forbes listed the Sports Management MBA as one of the most difficult degrees to use. Do your homework well before you pick it. Talk to some grads and find out what they are doing. Talk to the school about job placement and find out where they are referring you too. It sounds great but without connections the New England Patriots won’t come calling, or for that matter the The Tampa Bay All Female Roller Derby.
There is a lot of overlap with sports management and Business classes. One way to go is to double major so you keep your options open. My DS was a sports management major. He decided the best route was to go on to Law School. especially if one has any interest in working with a sports agency.
You can also major in General Business with a specialization in Sports Management. http://warrington.ufl.edu/undergraduate/academics/baba-gba/ for more information.
