Sport with the smartest athletes?

“Im not sure what it is at my school probably XC and Tennis, but my coach (who used to be a bio teacher) said that in a test on mice they found that running produces more brain cells or something like that, but will power and endurance probably have something to do with it to.”

An experiment on rats found that exercise produces brain cells that are more resilient to stress (like when a rat, which dislikes water, has to swim). So you could say exercise makes people less anxious.

A lot of surgeons tend to be ironmen or marathon runners; they need the toughness to get through all their work.

Definitely XC. Runners are the smartest people , period.

Although if you count non-school affiliated sports, then DEFINITELY Crew. The average GPA/SAT/ACT score of the boy’s crew team I know is RIDICULOUSLY high. As in, all of them are going to get into MIT/Stanford/Caltech. :P

also, the ultimate frisbee team at my school is pretty smart. Its basically half of the valedictorians plus a bunch of potheads.

I know a lot of brilliant tennis players. At a huge local school all of the seniors on the tennis team were valedictorians. I also know a lot of really smart XC/track people. /anecdotal evidence

our football team is full of… tennis is full of smart people.

Here it’s indoor track

MARCHING BAND. No doubt here.

Should I be stereotypical and say badminton?

Hm, if I was to make an educated guess, I would think tennis/golf because generally (I know there are always exceptions), those are the sports that require the most…well, money if you want to be competitive in it (in my experience). There are obviously exceptions, but generally, the kids who enroll in it come from wealthier backgrounds, parents get wealth from smarts, smarts passed down through genes. I know this is MAJOR generalization and there are so many exceptions (I’m one myself) but hey, that’s why it’s a hook to be considered (1) poor or (2) URM.

Any sports team other than volleyball (well, the guy volleyball players are okay…)

Last year, we had a record high of 10 students (all on the volleyball team) being kicked from the school b/c of academic probation.

for my school, its track. and we’re good too. always league champions and sending many to the regional championships…

Most of the really intelligent people I know are figure skaters, actually. Girls and boys. At my old school, the smartest people were on track.

Hockey and Lacrosse are the two college sports that prestigeous sports tend to do well in (hockey espessially) so I would say them? idk it’s basically impossible to judge.

long distance runners.

If by ‘smartest’ you mean those with the highest stats, it’d definitely be golf or tennis.

Socioeconomic boost anyone?

And I’m generalizing. Don’t attack me, lol. We all know that over large numbers, the richest do end up having the best resources and therefore the best stats.

^^That’s basically what I said, except yours is more concise :)

at our school it is boys volleyball

most of the seniors have a 1900+ SAT, 650+ SAT2, 30+ ACT and 3.5+ GPA UW

i myself am on the team and i’ve got a 3.8 UW and 4.6 W… 2040 SAT and a 34 ACT. As well as 770 MathIIC, 790 USH and 720 Physics…

The thing is in volleyball our coach makes us run even if we have a B or an S(citizenship) grade… If we get an A that means no running…
B-100m, C-200, D-300, F-400… S-100m U-400m…
so most of us get good grades… and there’s like 30 kids and all of us are lazy bums when it comes to running… LOL

Tennis and Cross Country have all the Asians, so I’m gonna go with those.

At my school its girl’s volleyball or boy’s track, but I have to say girl soccer athletes are the smartest cuz i play! :)

nicee, I’m a long distance track runner lol.
