Sports Administration

Do any SUNYs have a (good) Sports Administration program?

…or Sports Marketing?

[SUNY: Program Search](http://www.suny.edu/student/search_programs/currfd_search.cfm?CampusID=&currID=183&CurrName=&Term=21&StudType=Freshman&EOP=No&searchCurrFdSubmit=Processing.+Please+wait).

Not exactly but they do have Sport’s Management:

Cortland
Brockport
Fredonia

thanksss :)

Is anyone out there currently in the Sports Management programs at Brockport, Fredonia, or Cortland (or recently graduated) that has any comments about them?

I don’t have any direct info but I can tell you that the kids from our area who pursue Education-Phys. Ed. tend to head off to Cortland or Brockport. The kids who pursue Music Education tend to head to Fredonia. I suggest concentrating your SUNY research on Cortland and Brockport for anything sports related–they both have a large “jock” student body :)

Comparing the two, it seems to me that Cortland’s program seems to have a more business approach to the field (which may be a good thing). Check them both out. You can even email questions about the programs to the admission’s dept.

IMO, the Cortland program seems like a better fit based on your interest in the Administration/Business end of sports.

my d is a sport managment major at cortland. she is really very happy at cortland & I think the program is great. The program has 3 major components

 1. the sport management major
 2. alot of business requirements-accounting, microeconomics, management, marketing and a few other business related courses
 3. semester internship for credit

as my d developed an interest in marketing, she is also minoring in communications. She’s taking courses in public relations, mass media advertising etc.
so for her needs- she is really thrilled with the program.

The way the program is structured, you really do get a firm business foundation as well as the sport management background.
Cortland was also the summer home for the NY Jets training camp. Rumor has it they were very happy with the cortland facilities and may be back there for the next few years. My d (as well as 40+ other cortland students) Interned for them during the summer. She had a great time, learned alot and of course the experience will look good on her resume.
I’m not going to say cortland is the best sport management program in the world- but it is very decent program, well respected in NYS sport circles ( as she will probably be looking for a job in NYC- who gives a hoot if no one outside of NYS ever heard of it) and of course it’s a financial bargain.

I’m actually going to cortland this week-end and then spend time upstate. we need to get the rest of my kids stuff up to school- so we decided to take a mini-vacation too.
I’ll be gone from cc for a few days, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I’ll check back here next week.
