Sports and academics

I'm looking for schools with a great academic reputation as well as a lot of school pride for both football and basketball. A good business school is also wanted.
right now I have UNC, UVA, michigan, BC. any others that would fit the bill

UMD all the way

university of miami! great academics (ranked in top 50 in U.S.), great sports teams, and it has a business school!

-Duke
-University of Washington
-Penn State
-UCLA
-Ohio State
-Notre Dame
-University of Virginia
-Wake Forest

aye also Uconn NCAA champs what up

Bulldog nailed it imo.

Duke is proud of its football team? Hasn’t it been 15 years since they even had a winning season?

UT-Austin ftw!

Haha good point Sakky. Also you’re probably not getting into Duke if the range of schools you’re looking at include Ohio State, Penn State and the University of Washington.

Wisconsin–Rose Bowl + Sweet 16 with 11 straight NCAAs and 8 straight bowls. Not to mention great ice hockey

<a href=“Scott Van Pelt Declares Madison, Wisconsin America's Greatest College Sports Town - YouTube”>Scott Van Pelt Declares Madison, Wisconsin America's Greatest College Sports Town - YouTube;

Duke==crappy football
-University of Washington=so-so coming off crappy football-1 straight bowl
-Penn State==what’s basketball??
-UCLA==football??
-Ohio State==cheaters
-Notre Dame–Many years ago
-University of Virginia–bad football and basketball
-Wake Forest =nobody cares

UCLA has been to a bowl game in 8 of the last 11 seasons. Granted, they were lower-tier bowl games, but still bowl games. Plenty of teams wish they could do the same.

UNC, UVA, michigan, BC, ND, Stanford, Northwestern, UCLA/USC, Duke

I may be missing one or two. Stanford is probably the best. Northwestern is better at academics than sports, UCLA/USC/BC/UNC are well balanced, ND is known for their sports although they haven’t been very good in a long time, Michigan is a great academic school with good school spirit though they haven’t won in FB or BB in a long time either. Duke is a great school with great basketball and horrible football.

Similar to the case of UCLA, Notre Dame has also been to bowl games in 7 of the last 11 seasons, with 3 of them being BCS bowls. Granted, they lost those 3 BCS bowl games quite badly. But the vast majority of schools were never selected to even a single BCS bowl game during the 2000’s, let alone 3 of them.

I think what was meant is that Notre Dame is clearly not as great as it was during the glory days when they won more national championships than any other school. Fine - they’ll probably never replicate their dominance of the 1940’s. But that hardly means that they’re bad.

As far as basketball, last season Notre Dame finished in second place in the ultra-competitive Big East Conference, were ranked #5 at the end of the regular season, and earned a 2 seed in the NCAA tournament. Not only were they were the last team to ever defeat eventual champion UConn, they actually swept them. That sounds pretty darn impressive to me.

^ How far ND has fallen when this is considered good. Still, it is a great academic school.

UT – definitely fits your description. McCombs is ranked #7, and a UT football game is definitely an experience like none other.

UVA – Consistently ranked in the top 5 for UG business (usually top 3). Their football team is mediocre, but the stands are packed as EVERYONE at this school supports all the teams. Their other sports teams (baseball, lacrosse, etc.) always place them very high in the Davis Cup.

UNC – Solid business school and great sports.

UMich – Business school is usually always in the top 5, and their sporting events are intense (Ohio State/UMich game is incredible!)

USC – Great UG business program, solid academic reputation…Trojan football is known everywhere.

Notre Dame – Mendoza is well-ranked and ND has a lot of pride and tradition.

Others: Northwestern, BC

Top notch academics with top notch athletics:
Duke University (Basketball)
Stanford University (Football…although that could change with the departure of Harbaugh)
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (Football and Hockey)
University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (Basketball)
University of Notre Dame (Football)
University of Texas-Austin
University of Wisconsin-Madison (Football and Hockey)

Top notch academics with solid athletics:
Boston College
Northwestern University
Rice University
University of California-Berkeley
University of California-Los Angeles
University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign
University of Virginia
Vanderbilt University

Top notch atheltics with solid academics (too many to mention):
Michigan State University
Ohio State University
Pennsylvania State University
University of Alabama
University of Florida

If you are looking for the best possible Business program with the best possible football tradition, Michigan is hard to beat.

ND gets bowl games because of the name and the viewers that attracts. Not the on the field quality.

RN at UCLA is very close to getting fired. He needs to win at least 8 games this year.

Both have been mediocre at best the last decade.
USC basketball and football are BIG cheats and on probation. No cheaters allowed.

UNC football now a big cheater.

Do you mean the NACDA Director’s Cup? Unless you think UVA competes in men’s professional tennis…

Stanford has had 1 great season and 1 good season after a decade of being mediocre to just plain awful; if this list is for recent success, then I don’t see how UM should be on it (notwithstanding its history) considering that their FB program has been in shambles the past 3 years.

Things are looking up for UM under Hoke, tho.

Yeah, this is more accurate.

Also, a no. of these schools mention (like Stanford and Northwestern don’t have an undergrad bus. school, altho they do have strong econ programs or other programs affiliated w/ their b-schools).

And granted, not the success, say UW has had in FB and BB the past season, but NU has made the post-season in both sports each of the past 3 years.

Fitz is one of the best young football coaches around. NU has given UW fits since Gary Barnett’s days.
