Sports and College Admissions

Registration for spring sports is after school tomorrow for me and I need to make a decision. I'm weighing many factors on my own, so please do not try to convince me beyond the question.

This year (10th grade), I played JV Soccer in the Fall. I will continue to play soccer for Junior and Senior years, hopefully varsity next year or senior year. But I am CONSIDERING doing track as well. I do a few ECs, none very major, but a couple of which are fairly time consuming.

*My question specifically is: How would doing track this year affect a college's decision? Will it make a significant difference? *

I doubt it will make me or break me, but I know colleges like to see involved students. I am weighing many factors beyond this, also, but this will have a slight impact on my decision.

Please don’t do it to build your resume. My track coach (and most of the serious runners) absolutely hate resume builders; if you actually want to compete/think you can do well, then by all means go out for the team.

it won’t affect it too much, but it will just give them something else to look at w/ the big picture of your ECs. try to have at least a few that actually mean something to you or else they’ll see you more as a “resume builder” as Jersey said

Doing 1 year of JV/V track making a difference in your college admission? ■■■■■

Yeah, it won’t really affect your resume too much. I don’t know about your school, but running at my school is also a pretty big commitment. That’s something you should consider. Not too many people run track unless they are competitive. (Field, however, is sort of a party. People do it just for the social aspect)

It would not simply be a resume builder, as there are many factors I am considering. I merely asked about this one, small, individual part of the decision. Does it play a role in my decision? Frankly, yes. My personal idea was that it would not help or hurt me either way.
