Ok guys well I have been looking at schools recently, I am an upcoming senior, and I was wondering, what are some universities that have good sciences (I want to probably major in pyschology or biology) but also amazing sports? (I've always been addicted to sports-- watching it, playing it)

Being in a good school is important to me but I also don't think I could live without some form of sports.

Sports and science can be found at almost any good, large public university. If you live in the right state, your choice should be easy–assuming you don’t mind big schools. (Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Cali, Virginia, North Carolina)

Are you looking at private schools? Large or small? Do you live in a state with a good public school?

Like justtotalk said, pretty much any big state school will do. UCB and UCLA, Michigan, Texas, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, UNC, Maryland… need I continue?

Well I live in Texas but I wouldn’t mind going out of state. For some reason I hate the weather here haha. I probably want to just go to a good public school but wouldn’t mind private. I actually am looking at UNC this weekend coincidentally, but am afraid that to get in out of state is impossible…

I know a few kids from my school get accepted to UNC each year (FYI each class at my school is about 100 kids, so ‘a few’ in this case is a decent percentage)

edit: My point being that my school is in DC, which is not North Carolina!

well how competitive is your school, DCHurricane? I know that only about 20% of UNC kids are out of state, and I’m sure a lot apply. I’m probably still going to apply, it seems like a perfect school, but I think its a reach for me.

Very competitive… I think 10 kids got admitted to Yale. But that tends to happen when most of the kids who go to your school are the kids of Washington DC’s rich and preppy.

You should apply, worst comes to worst you don’t get in.

Are you interested in actually playing a varsity sport or do you want to play on an intramural team? If you’re just interested in IM games then you can also look at schools near large cities. I spent my undergrad at Carnegie Mellon where people didn’t care a whole lot about our DIII teams, but since you were right in Pittsburgh you could find plenty of people to enjoy Steelers, Penguins, or Pirates games with. There were also plenty of IM opportunities for all sorts of sports if you’re interested in that.

Well I am playing soccer right now in high school but I doubt I’d make a division 1 team. I’d rather just have a college that has great intramurals and varsity teams (to watch, of course); all around good sports town. But I’m pretty sure I want to be either a doctor, pa, etc (some medical field) so a good science background at a school is important to me too…

Yes I’m looking forward to seeing UNC this weekend! But I also been looking at UW-Madison. It seems like they have good sports there and are one of the highest ranked research institutions. What do you think?

Son attending UW Madison and a junior in engineering. Daughter will be a freshmen at the Univ. of Iowa this fall.

You’ll love UW-Madison. Great Science / Engineering programs. Top-notch fans with great school spirit. Very strong in most D-1 sports. U of I also an excellent school. Good life sciences / medical school. Excellent football team. Everyone loves the Hawks. Also, great value - one of the least expensive Big 10 schools for out-of-state tuition. Can’t go wrong with either choice. Good luck.
