Sports at Emory

How into sports is everyone at Emory? I'm a big fan of sports so can anyone tell me either what the good sports teams are at Emory, and how much people seem to care about them on campus?

Also, how far away is the Atlanta Falcons/Altanta Hawks stadium in case I feel like watching the pros every once in a while?

Compared to many peer colleges (Vanderbilt, WF, GaTech, etc), sports at Emory are not very prominent. Emory doesn't have a football team. The sport teams Emory does have compete in division III against academic powerhouses like UChicago, WashU, and NYU. There is a program on campus called E-TEAM which rewards X many prizes to students that attend Y many games; it cost 15$ to join the program but you get a t-shirt as apart of the fee. Despite this, attendance to most sporting events is low.

I really like the professional sports in Atlanta. So far, I've been to one Braves game and two Falcon's games. Tickets to a Brave's game are highly available and relatively cheap (1$ for the "skyline" section, which is an awesome deal). Falcon's tickets can be hard to procure, and they are expensive (60$ for third tier of Georgia Dome, 100$ for second tier, and first tier beyond my budget to concern myself with.) The Falcon's is a good team, the Dome is great, and there are interesting pre-game activities. Hawk's tickets are as cheap as 10$ for total nosebleed, and the arena is literally right next to the Dome. Basically - to get to a Hawks/Falcons game, you take the #6 Bus from Emory to the east-west railway (the #6 bus wont take you to the north-south rail on Sundays, but on weekdays it does.. and this is also an option as both railways go to the main station downtown). Get a bus schedule because buses run about once every hour on Sundays, and waiting can be really boring.. so it behooves of you to know when the bus comes by Emory. The east-west railways runs about once every 15mins and takes you to the main station downtown which is called Little Five Points. The GA Dome/Phillip's Arena is located one stop west of Little Five Points and literally right next to the railway, so you don't have to walk far at all. Turner Field, where the Brave's play, is less accessible; it's a $1.75 and 5min shuttle drive from Little Five Points or a 1 mile walk. Getting from Emory to the Georgia Dome, if you know when the bus stops, takes about 20-30mins. If you use bus-rail transfers, the cost is $1.75 each way, $3.50 roundtrip.

Oh - and lastly, don't go to the east-west rail station at night, especially if you are alone, and double especially if you are female. It's shady.

Just as a small correction, Five Points is the main downtown station where the two subway lines meet.

Little Five Points is a funky shopping and dining district located on Moreland Ave, about 2 miles southwest of Emory. There is no subway service to this area.

I'm an ETeam member and enjoy most of the DIII sports we have at Emory. Emory has ranked teams in volleyball, soccer, swimming, tennis- the list goes on. Although the attendance may be low, I still very much enjoy going to games with friends and starting cheers. It is really what you make of it. Also, if you are a professional sports fan, you will find fans for every team. For example, a dozen people were watching the Vikings vs. Bears game a few weeks ago in the DUC. It is not difficult to find people to talk with about the NFC North, American League, etc.
