D is looking for a college w/ strong academics and where sports are popular. A friend suggested Kenyon.

D's primary sport is track/field (high jump & sprints), but she's also a real fan (any sport!) - - she often complains about the lack of school spirit at her boarding school.

I'm on the track team at Kenyon, the new facilities are going to be AMAZING. We already have the new outdoor track facilities, and after a tour of the new gym that is being built, I can tell you that I have never seen better facilities for D-3 sports.

Every single member of the team, I can confidently say, cares A LOT about the team and about their individual events. Some members are "good," some (like me), aren't so "good." We have a lot of girls who place in the top 3 in our conference and at least 1 girl per year goes to the NCAA championships.

That being said, the coaching staff is not up to par with the other schools in our conference (that is all I can compare them to as I was not a track athlete in college and these have been my only coaches). The Kenyon coaches, while very nice personally, are unorganized and very hands off, often late or changing meetings and practices at the last minute. I have never once gotten individual coaching. However, with many individualized events (high jump in particular), I'm sure the coaching is more 1-on-1.

If you want more information, please send me a private message and I'll get back to you.

I'd say about 1/2 of the team is premed or hard science (biology, chem, physics) majors, and the rest are a good mix of English, Political Science, Sociology, etc. I have never met a teammate who doesn't work hard in the classroom. My teammates are academically talented and it is so awesome to be on a team with people who care just as much about school as they do about their sport. At Kenyon, people do sports because they want to, not because they HAVE to.
