Sports at Northeastrn

I love sports and obviously Boston is a great location to be in. I was wondering how Northeastern sports are besides hockey. I know they are Division 1 but how are their football and basketball teams? I also saw that NEU is playing BC for their first game this year, any chance of for an upest lol? what other sports are popular at NEU?

Ummmm none really. Basketball has a small following but I’m pretty sure every fan could have a front row seat if he/she wanted to. Hockey games, as you know, are packed. Nobody that I’ve met has even been to a football game. One of my friends is on the girl’s volleyball team so I’ve been to a couple of those matches and they are pretty fun. I think we just added lacrosse and I had wanted to go to some games but never got around to it. I love sports too, but in the fall, we have NFL parties every sunday, winter is NEU Hockey, Spring is MLB/end of NHL. I have been to 3 sox games so far though and will be going to two more in the next month. Going to baseball games is SO fun and easy.

And I’d say 0 chance of an upset. Love Northeastern, grew up an Eagles fan (love them a little less now), but I wouldn’t get your hopes up especially since they are playing at BC.

Thanks man. LOL yeah i wasn’t expecting a good reply. Hopefully football will turn around though.

what have you heard about soccer at northeastern? I think they are division 1, is it really competitive?

Maybe, but I don’t follow it. Even my roommates who are obsessed with soccer and play intramural (and do really well) have not gone to single game.

How do students go about getting Sox tickets? Are they just left to their own devices? I know my dad has a co-worker who will sell them for face value, but I didn’t know if there was a specific way students got them.

I know nothing about this… the only thing I have heard is that my mom’s friend’s husband is a soccer coach @ NEU. Just thought I’d throw that in.

I use stubhub for my tickets. There are usually raffles through different organization where you can win tickets. My friend’s friend won tickets by donating blood or something and I ended up buying them off of her, but tickets are easy to find. Bruins usually have “student night” where tickets are 15-20 bucks.

NEU sports - ah, not a great following. It’s been a very long time since Jim Calhoun coached the BBall team - equally as long that they’ve had a following. Football is off campus and everytime they get anything going it just doesn’t last. I’m an alumnus, I donate but I don’t go. You are however a short walk to Fenway - so all is well at NEU. You’ll have more time for studying - Ha!

boys soccer didn’t make NCAA tournament last year but girls made it to the second round, beat Harvard and then lost to BC but those matches were pretty fun to go to… but as others have said hockey is pretty much the big draw, and after losing out best player this offseason next season will def. be a test to the team’s ability to remain high in the rankings… basketball is not too bad either but nothing great, games are still pretty fun to go to, although there is not much student support for them.

Our hoops team should be decent next year, good chance of making the NCAA tournament in my opinion. We return all but one starter, we have a decent recruiting class, and return our leading scorer and 1st team all CAA matt janning. Hockey is big, don’t think I need to go into how awesome it is. After that sports fall off, hockey games make up for it though, they’re an absolute blast.
