Sports at the NA

What sports/clubs are everyone thinking about trying out for? i know there have been some threads that focus on crew, running and swimming, but is anyone interested in any others?

Personally, i've been thinking about the women's rugby team (although i've never played rugby in my life, i think i would like the physical side of it), ping pong if the have it, and cheerleading. Also--does anyone know the criteria for people interested in cheering for NAVY?

<a href="http://www.usna.edu/CheerNavy/requirements.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.usna.edu/CheerNavy/requirements.htm</a></p>

do you cheer for your school? I want to do either track or cheer, I've heard that you don't really need any experience to cheer for Navy because they have two squads but I'm not sure if that's true.

that's not really true: its pretty hard to get onto the squad: out of 40 who tried out this year, 10 made it.

My son wants to do powerlifting/ weightlifting.

does anyone have any insight of the Male Track team?

I would like to but Im not good enough. My times are nothing compared to the guys at the academy. These are the best kids in the country. I want to do the combat pistol team.

girls track! :-)

too bad there's no girls golf...

i think i'm gonna have to start a ping-pong team at the Naval Academy. it's so addicting...we could start a girls golf team, too. <insert smiley="" face,="" but="" i="" don't="" know="" where="" to="" find="" them=""></insert>

lizgirl06,
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/faq.php?faq=vb_read_and_post#faq_vb_smilies_explain%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/faq.php?faq=vb_read_and_post#faq_vb_smilies_explain</a></p>

woah its that tuff for track, oh well . . .

I have another year to get my times up, well Down if i want to have any chance ...

btw, USMC457 what are the races you run and what are your times??

lizgirl, that sounds pretty sweet. we'll have to work on that! :-)

I'm so in on this ping-pong thing that would be wicked awesome!!

I can run the 200 meter with a personal PR of about 25.2 seconds. An aveage time of about 27 seconds. I run the 400 with a PR of 60 seconds. An average time of 62 seconds. I run the mile in about five minutes. Now the Naval Academy has a bunch of beasts on their team. All their mile runners run it in about 4: 15 and their 200 runners in about 23 seconds. Since you run track you must know what a difference these few seconds make. If they take guys like me and shape them into the runners at the academy, I have a good shot, but if they go in running those fast times I am out of my league.

Check this out. It gives you times and all sorts of other useful stuff.

sigh i would LOVE to swim for them....but there's now way, i'm far too slow.....

does anyone know what intramurals are offered?

i would check the website

USMC457: Yea ive been on that site, i check it a lot actually, lol, it just amazes me!

As for my times, i have a PR in the 200m with 25.8secs as well as my PR for 400m at 57.5secs, and thats running indoor, im sure it will go down by about maybe 1 to 1.5 seconds, as well as i have just started squating and doing leg weight lifting to help out some.

All in all, im just a junior right now and i plan on getting loads better over outdoor this year, the summer, then my senior year of track

Good luck to you, you are a year ahead of me, im only a sophamore. Your outdoor time will go down by a second, if you ahve track spikes it will go down about 3 seconds. I highly recommend them.

yup i use them, but i need to get new ones, i have like mid distance ones (even though i run like 400's all the time, and well the occasional 500)

Good luck man! Nice time for the 200 being a sophy, start squatting, it will never be negative to you (unless you rip all your muscles) lol

Good Luck and keep me informed about your progress!

Squating hurts my shoulders. I do dips which realy help. Im getting ready for outdoor now. Outdoor this year is my year. Im gonna shine. Good luck to you to man.
